LIT Students Demonstrate Social Responsibility

Plans are well advanced for a day of ballroom dancing, traditional music and reminiscing over pots of tea at Limerick Institute of Technology sponsored by Bluebird Care Limerick. Applied Event Management students will host an event for the elderly of Limerick City demonstrating a great sense of social responsibility on 21st of February.

Joanne O'Meara of the Applied Event Management course says, “Older people who are living in care are invited for an afternoon of entertainment to demonstrate that we as a community appreciate them, and their contribution to Limerick City, over the years.”

The title “All Sorts” was chosen by the event team as it highlighted each person's unique journey through life. It also ties in with the memories of the famous sweets which in a quirky twist, will also be incorporated into the theme on the day.

The event team is made up of  Joanne O'Meara, Aoife Daly, Rachel Leahy, Rachel O'Connell and Anna Kowalska.

Joanne says, “Limerick Institute of Technology was chosen as the venue for this event as it offers the chance to combine the characters of the future with the characters of the past.”

The event is non-profit and kindly sponsored by Bluebird Care. Operations Director Eddie O'Toole says, "we are really impressed by the deliver the level of care demonstrated by this team of students.  We are delighted to be on board to highlight the contribution of older people in our communities."

The occasion is also sponsored by Masterchefs Hospitality who continue to generously support local projects. Pat and the team are "renowned for exquisite cuisine and polished service."

The event offers those who cannot afford many senior citizen activities, a chance to socialise in the community.  The Event Management students say the event is designed to brighten up the “dark days of winter generating spring-time smiles”.

The vision of the students is to inspire and encourage others to come on board in creating awareness of the importance of older people in society.

“All Sorts” takes place on Thursday 21st February from 2.30-5.30 in the Aula Maxima at Limerick Institute of Technology. For more information contact Joanne O’Meara on 087-1257676 or email allsorts2013@gmail.com.
