Today is National Anti-Burglary Day being rolled out by An Garda Síochána and we are supporting it throughout the Bluebird Care network.
Operations Director Eddie O'Toole says, "Bluebird Care is an advocate of home security especially among older and vulnerable people in our communities. We have been hosting our nationwide series of 'Safe@Home Security Seminars' in conjunction with local Crime Prevention Officers ensuring that the key messages are given out to communities. To date nine of these events have been held with eight further to be rolled out this year."
Bluebird Care will share details of the Anti-Burglary Day of Action and the Garda Síochána's Burglary Prevention tips with our 1,000 staff who work in communities across Ireland every day.
Anti-Burglary Day Of Action - Garda Stats
Over 50 per cent of burglars enter homes either through the front or back door, according to the latest figures from An Garda Síochána. Work done by the Garda Síochána Analysis Service shows that the main entry points by burglars to houses are through a rear window (28%), front door (27%), and rear door (25%).
An Garda Síochána will tomorrow (March 12, 2014) publish further such analysis on burglaries as part of its National Crime Prevention Day of Action, which is promoting the range of measures that householders can take to secure their homes against the threat of burglary.
While the latest CSO figures show a 8.9% fall in the level of burglary and related offences between June 2012 and June 2013 compared to the previous 12 months, An Garda Síochána is advising people to remain vigilant and security conscious in order to thwart burglars.
