Here at Bluebird Care Sligo and Mayo we provide home care solutions to a wide range of individuals with the sole aim of ensuring they can live independently and comfortably at home where they continue to remain part of their own community in the company of friends and family.

More and more people are opting to receive care at home these days, and according to the HSE Service Plan 2015

“A greater move towards primary and community services, as the principal means to meet people’s home support and continuing care needs is required to address this growing demand and to support acute hospital services. To respond to this challenge services for older people will continue to progress the strategic realignment of services to provide home care and other community support services in order to maximise the potential of supporting older people in their own homes close to their families and within their own local communities.”

In the majority of cases it makes both financial and emotional sense for an individual to remain in the familiar surroundings of their own home. Freedom of choice, independence and social inclusion are all critical contributing factors to maximising our customers daily lived experience and continued medical, social and psychological well-being. Bluebird Care in Sligo and Mayo have a person centred focus and all our care packages are fully tailored and unique to the individual clients, in order that he or she has a direct input into the care they expect to receive.

Bluebird Care is a quality and standards driven organisation, who are Qmark certified nationally and dedicated to delivering excellent standards of care to all our customers.

We’re proud of our staff teams

One of the ways to achieve a dedicated workforce is to acknowledge their skills. For instance here in our Sligo and Mayo home care offices we have trained Health Care Assistants (HCA’s), Social Care graduates, Registered General Nurses (RGN) and Intellectual Disability (ID) nurses – all of whom are specialists in their field and respected by us as such.

Another way of retaining a contented workforce is to keep them informed of advances in their industry and to continually challenge and stimulate them. Again, here at Bluebird Care we provide ongoing e-learning as well as courses in particular subject areas such Elder Abuse, Disability Awareness and Child Protection. If a carer is interested in learning more about a particular condition for a client then we will always accommodate that request. For instance, we are currently researching a dementia course for staff which will enable them to put into practice coping strategies nor just for their clients but also that individual’s family.

The reason we put such high emphasis on our staffing criteria is because ultimately it is the client who will benefit. A positive, cheerful outlook from an HCA or ID nurse is important within the care at home industry, chiefly because our clients look forward to seeing their support worker and, sadly for some, it can be the only human contact they may have in a day. As a result a smile and friendly hello are essential.

From social care to personal care

We provide support to a wide range of clients from older people, people with physical and sensory dissabilities and people with learning difficulties. Each and every client is treated with the upmost respect and attention they deserve. All our clients have a person centred care plan tailored specifically to their needs. This care plan is communicated to there appointed support staff so they are full aware of the needs of the client and the duties they need to perform for them in order to help mainitain them in their own home

Every client is unique and that’s why here at Bluebird Care in Sligo and Mayo we genuinely believe in providing tailor-made support to suit the individual rather than insist their needs fit into a prescribed template of care practices.

In summary then, our care provision includes:

  • Assistance with Personal Care, washing and dressing.
  • Prompting Medication
  • Full In Home Care
  • Preparing breakfast and other meals
  • Providing companionship
  • Helping work out a budget and grocery shopping
  • Washing and a little ironing
  • Light housework duties
  • Accompanying to appointments
  • Transport to social groups
  • Help with engagement in particular activities
  • Respite for main family carers

In terms of duration most of the care required by clients is of a long-term nature. This allows plenty of time for a relationship of trust to build up between client and carer. Having said that, we also provide temporary support for hospital discharges (re-enablement) as well as forms of respite care, including ‘end of life’ care.

Excellent service and flexibility

Here at Bluebird Care Sligo and Mayo we are continually being praised on the service we provide to our clients and their families – which is in turn a reflection of our expert, caring staff and the training they receive. In a feedback survey one local client recently told us that “everything Bluebird Care did was just perfect” while another described her carers as “lovely people without whom I would be lost.”

Another area in which we excel is in our ability and willingness to adapt to a client’s changing environment. We can only do this, of course, because we have a large staff and adequate resources. It’s why we can confidently say we are one of the top care at home providers in the whole of Ireland.
