Positive Ageing Week (PAW) is a festival which highlights the positive aspects of ageing and celebrates the contribution older people have made and continue to make to our communities.
This is the 10th year Age Action has marked UN International Day of Older Persons (1st October) and with PAW becoming bigger and better every year, Bluebird Care tare thrilled to partner with this fantastic initative this year. Last year there were over 1,000-recorded events and this year we hope to have at least 1250 events and activities across Ireland, including Northern Ireland.
Positive Ageing Week Towns
In addition to the 1250 individual events expected to take place during the week, 15 towns have been selected to be PAW Towns, and they are: Arklow, Athy, Ballymun, Boyle, Cashel, Drogheda, Dublin city, Dundalk, Dungarvan, Galway city, Kinsale, Midleton, Sligo, Trim and Tullamore. Each town will host a week-long series of events.
What Can You do?
Age Action and Bluebird Care are asking individuals and groups to organise an event or activity to join in the festivities and celebrate that as a nation we are living longer and that ageing is not a burden but an opportunity!
Ideas for Activities and Events
What is so special about PAW is that there are no rules about the type of activity that can beorganised, except of course that it involves older people. The type of events held in 2011 included coffee mornings, afternoon tea dances and quiz nights, excursions, exhibitions, bridge tournaments and historic walks, workshops on arts and crafts, creative writing, computing and reminiscence, musical evenings, performances, choral recitals and sing songs, information talks on safety, nutrition, health and gardening, and a wide range of keep fit activities such as boules, golf, yoga, walks and aqua aerobics to name but a few.
