Growing Old in Ireland – Have Your Say
An EngAGEment with Bluebird Care Goes Nationwide
“By 2021 there will 800,000 people over the age of 65 in Ireland. Are we minding an ageing population?”
Newstalk Broadcaster George Hook was speaking at the launch of a nationwide event series debating issues concerning growing old in Ireland and taking the pulse of the nation on this theme.
Organised by Bluebird Care the two-hour seminars will be hosted in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Sligo and Kilkenny during September, October and November.
Contributing organisations include Age Action, Alone, The Alliance of Retired Public Servants, RESPOND, Home and Community Care Ireland and the Institute of Community Health Nursing.
George Hook will chair all five events, which will debate:
• Growing old in Ireland
• Austerity and the impact on Pensioners
• Life after retirement
• Social engagement: The key to older people’s wellbeing
• Healthcare and homecare
• Home security
There will also be interaction with a live audience.
TV and Award winning chef Gary O’Hanlon will cook recipes from his forthcoming cookbook “Food for the Soul” produced by Bluebird Care.
Operations Director with Bluebird Care Eddie O’Toole says, “We recognise that it is becoming more and more difficult for older people in Ireland given the impact of austerity, families emigrating, healthcare provision and the concerns of older people about feeling safe in their own home. All of these issues will be discussed at our upcoming events and it will provide older people, their families, health professionals, active retirement groups and other agencies to ask questions and give their views.”
An EngAGEment with Bluebird Care takes place in five locations this autumn and all events are free but prior booking is required. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place or call 0818 227 052 for more information.
