Bluebird Care Takes Double Gold at National Quality Awards

Bluebird Care has just been named as Ireland’s Business Group of the Year at this year’s National Q Mark Awards.

The Bluebird Care Team were delighted to be called to the stage to receive the winner’s gold medal trophy during an exciting awards ceremony held in the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin. Winning this award demonstrates Bluebird Care’s continued commitment to excellence within the homecare industry.

The Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar TD, who attended this year’s National Q Mark Awards, said “At the heart of the Governments strategy is supporting Irish businesses through policies to create the environment for a strong economic recovery by promoting competitiveness and productivity. Quality standards and good governance enables this growth and competitiveness and it is exciting to see companies in the public, private and not for profit sectors competing side by side. These are the modern Irish businesses that are driving the engine of our recovery, and I wish them every success in the future”.

Bluebird Care provides accessible, quality, safe care for individuals of all ages in the home and community setting, operates in 26 offices throughout Ireland, and delivers over 25,000 care visits per week.

Bluebird Care dedicated this award to their 1500 Care Staff around Ireland who work so diligently on their behalf to provide a high standard of care to their customers and families on a daily basis.

Irene Collins, Managing Director of The National Q Mark Awards stated that the team in Bluebird Care did not rest on their past achievements and offered her congratulations to everyone involved. She further stated that, “when the homecare sector is finally state regulated in Ireland, Bluebird Care will be more than ready because they have been advocates for quality standards and external audit procedures for four years.”

Managing Director of Bluebird Care Ireland stated that it was time that all homecare companies embraced the Q Mark ahead of regulation in the marketplace.

“We want to see regulation and have publicly called for it for many years. It’s important that the sector as a whole maintains high standards, after all that’s what our customers and the HSE expect. We adhere to HSE guidelines, are mindful of the HIQA standards, have our own internal auditing procedures and in addition, we embrace the Q Mark process to ensure we are not just maintaining those standards but that we are continuously improving upon them.”

Bluebird Care in Galway also won the prestigious Homecare Company of the Year award at the national Q Mark Awards.

Sean Lyons, Director of Bluebird Care Galway accepted the Homecare Company of the Year award for the second time in three years. “This award is dedicated to our staff who care for people who choose to remain at home. They are committed to quality care and understand how and why we have audit procedures, both internally and externally. I am absolutely thrilled to accept this award for a second time and it will only excel our passion for increasing care standards in our business.”

Bluebird Care had eight offices as finalists in the Homecare Company of the Year category, namely, Sligo/Mayo, Clare, Limerick, Kildare/Laois & Offaly, Dublin North, Dublin West, Head Office and Galway who won the title.

The Q Mark Awards are forever associated with Quality and Excellence in the minds of Irish consumers and it is the only system which allows businesses monitor 100% of their processes and procedures 100% of the time. Winning this award has shown that Bluebird Care truly cares about its customers and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that it achieves the highest possible standards at all times.

Eddie O’Toole, Operations Director with Bluebird Care says, “As the Master Franchisee we have led out on the EIQA process. What is Quality Homecare?

The homecare sector in Ireland is unregulated. Therefore how can you establish the quality standards of any homecare company? In this blog post we try to answer this question.

Member of HCCI

Home and Community Care Ireland

Home and Community Care Ireland is the independent voice of homecare companies in Ireland. Members of HCCI are in favour of regulation in their sector and are actively lobbying government on this move.

Q Mark

Excellence Ireland Quality Association is Ireland’s leading certification body. They conduct independent quality audits of homecare organisations. Those homecare companies who have received, completed and have been successful in EIQA audits are awarded with the Q Mark of Quality. Bluebird Care won Business Group of the Year for 2013/2014 illustrating our commitment to quality homecare.

Internal Company Auditing & Standards

All homecare companies should undertake their own internal audits of all offices. Strict policies and procedures should be in place to ensure high standards are maintained and improved on an ongoing basis. These policies should relate to care planning, staffing, invoicing, quality standards, branding, corporate social responsibility, customer service, training and ongoing professional development and information technology.

Openness & Transparency

All homecare companies should be open and transparent in all aspects of their business. From pricing and invoicing to staff training, auditing and quality systems – all parts of the homecare company’s business should be open to scrutiny by the customer.

 Customer Feedback

Is there positive and genuine customer feedback from existing and past clients? Do you know somebody who has used their service?  A recommendation or referral can be valuable when seeking quality homecare.

Homecare companies that win awards in their sector to acknowledge high standards or other areas of their business are assessed by their peers.

Staff Training & Qualifications

Maintaining high care standards will depend on the quality of the training and experience as well as the academic qualifications of your staff. Staff should be adequately trained to take on a care role and they should be offered ongoing professional development.
