Dates Announced for Nationwide Roadshow “An EngAGEment with Bluebird Care”

BREAKING NEWS:

Dates have been announced for a nationwide roadshow series looking at issues affecting older people in modern Ireland. Organised by homecare company Bluebird Care, it will take a forensic look at a number of key themes around growing old in Ireland.

The events are free and will see a number of guest speakers address relevant issues in front of a live audience chaired by Broadcaster George Hook.

The events will run from September through to November.  Newstalk 106 has been confirmed as media partner.

Operations Director with Bluebird Care, Eddie O’Toole says the events are part of their ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy.

“Care of older persons is an integral part of our daily work across Ireland. As a leading homecare company we are at the heart of this debate given we engage with thousands of older people every week and hear their concerns and views on key issues. With this in mind we wanted to give them a voice and so we decided to host a series of events across Ireland which will allow for a bigger discussion on those issues such as security, healthcare, community involvement and independence. The events are free and we are releasing tickets for each event on a first come first served basis.

“We are delighted that George Hook has once again partnered with us given his passion on the subject and similarly we are delighted that Newstalk 106 have come on board as media partners to help us deliver our key messages around this theme.”

A second print-run to meet demand marks the launch of the 5th annual Irish Pensioners Handbook.

The free publication, which contains over 200 pages of helpful hints, tips, articles and local directories for older people and carers, is now available from Bluebird Care offices nationwide.

“It’s a great coffee table read, but more than that it’s a handbook of helpful hints and tips with practical information and a great directory. I’m hooked and others will too when they get their hands on it. Information is vital for older people and carers. I’m in the business of broadcasting so I know this.” says Newstalk’s George Hook who this week launched the Irish Pensioners Handbook.

In her foreword, Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State, Department of Health with responsibility for Disability, Older People, Equality and Mental Health says:

“I am delighted to see that this year marks the fifth edition of the Irish Pensioners Handbook, which by now is a well proven resource for pensioners, their families and many health care professionals.

The increasing number of people over age 65 will inevitably pose further challenges not only for our health and social care services, but for society as a whole. These challenges equally contain great opportunities, if we only have the foresight and courage to grasp them. As Minister with responsibility for Older People, I am keenly aware of the importance of “positive ageing” for our collective future. The Government is therefore progressing the new National Positive Ageing Strategy, to better inform on a wide front policies and service developments for older people in Ireland.”

Eddie O’Toole Operations Director with Bluebird Care who sponsored this years edition says their offices located in 23 counties have been inundated with requests for the free Handbook. “The publication is a valuable resource and feedback so far has been extremely positive. We have also uploaded the electronic version on our website so it’s there at the touch of a button. But we also printed an extra 10,000 to meet growing demand and with just one call to our office we will post you out a copy. The articles we commissioned are based on the information older people and carers are looking for from our staff, so we decided to ask a number of medical, financial and health experts to contribute to it.”
