Ireland’s legendary singer Sonny Knowles to celebrate 80thBirthday during Age Action Tea Party Series
Ireland’s legendary singer Sonny Knowles will celebrate his 80th Birthday this November, during a series of afternoon tea dances where he will perform for the last time for hundreds of fans.
Ahead of his 80th celebrations Sonny will be performing at various tea parties throughout the country organised by Age Action and supported by Bluebird Care to help celebrate positive ageing in Ireland.
In association with their upcoming Positive Ageing Week (September 28 to October 6) and to mark Age Action’s 20th anniversary, the two organisations will host a series of tea parties across the country. They will invite people from Positive Ageing Week Towns, Active Retirement groups and local nursing home residents to come together for an afternoon of great music, food, to meet old neighbours and to make some new friends.
Age Action fundraiser Rhona O’Connor says, “Sonny, a true gentleman and a great performer, has been a hit at tea parties earlier this year and we are delighted to have him perform at our upcoming tea party in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, September 24.
“Come along and join us for a lovely afternoon of tea, talk, signing and dancing and enjoy a live performance of the greatest hits from one of Ireland’s leading singers.”
Also performing at the tea parties will be RTE’s 2007 You’re e A Star winner David O’Connor from Wexford. The former racing jockey won the nation’s vote with a stunning rendition of “On Borrowed Wings” written by Bryan Adams and Elliot Kennedy, in the final sing-off in Dublin’s Helix in 2007.
Each tea party will be hosted in a venue which is accessible and wheelchair friendly. Students from local schools will also be on hand to assist guests if required. Tickets are €20 per person, or €15 each for a party of five or more. Upcoming tea parties to mark on the calendar are as follows:
September 22, St Marys Church, Jacknell Street, Dungarvan
September 24, Burlington Hotel, Dublin 2
October 8, Sligo Park Hotel
Time 14.30 until 17.30
