Supporting you to make appropriate lifestyle changes

logoEnhanced Care
Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a serious condition that poses genuine risks. Left untreated, it can damage your kidneys, affect your vision, and even cause strokes.

Triggered by genetic and environmental factors (such as diet), hypertension requires careful management. If you're diagnosed with hypertension, you must make lifestyle changes.

But it can be difficult to know where to begin.

We tailor our hypertension care to your unique needs. helping you to make appropriate lifestyle changes.

What is Hypertension?

Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. Blood pressure measures the force of blood pressing against the walls of your arteries (large blood vessels) as it pumps around your body.

Simply put, hypertension means your heart is working harder than it should be to pump blood around your body, damaging the arteries in the process. Over time, hypertension can increase your risk of heart attacks, strokes, vision loss, and vascular dementia.

What Causes Hypertension?

Hypertension doesn’t have a single cause. It’s typically a result of dietary habits, lifestyle choices, or medical conditions. Typical risk factors include:

  • Smoking
  • Heavy alcohol consumption
  • High salt diets
  • Old age (over 65)
  • Sedentary lifestyles
  • Being overweight

It’s also possible to develop ‘secondary hypertension’ – high blood pressure caused by kidney disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea. Some medicines – such as contraceptives and herbal remedies can also result in hypertension.

Hypertension Symptoms

Hypertension often goes unnoticed, as most people don’t notice symptoms until their condition worsens - or even mistake the symptoms. As such, it’s important to have your blood pressure measured regularly.

Hypertension symptoms include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Ringing or buzzing in your ears
  • Nosebleeds
  • Abnormal heart rhythm

If you experience any of the above, you must consult your doctor, who will measure your blood pressure and recommend treatment.
